Medium Introduction
AremDee is a progressive freestyle role playing board. As such, there are no tricky character statistics to tend to, no math ability necessary, but best of all, no limit to the possibilities. The only requirements are an imagination, common-sense, and a way with creative writing.
There is a list of very important rules you should read through before attempting to play. We put those rules into effect to ensure players only play fairly and don't horribly inconvenience the other forum users. Understandable, right? I thought so. None of the rules are horribly confining, and with very few exceptions, they shouldn't limit your experiences playing within AremDee in the least.
Sounds pretty boring, right? Wrong! While we may not measure HP or MP around these parts, there's usually some kind of character conflict and a fight going down in one form or another. In fact, you could say things get more interesting within the realm of AremDee than on most stat-based boards. The long time users have no extra-ordinary amount of power than new forum users, so anyone can challenge anyone and have a fair chance at doing a great deal of damage.
I already know what you're thinking. How do we determine the winner in a fight? A fight outcome is determined by writing and fighting style. The more descriptive you can be in a fight, and the more imaginative your posts, the higher your chances of winning. As such, a fight can be as short as two posts, or can stretch out for days in real-time. If fights last too long, a moderator will read through posts and determine who has come out on top.
If you just don't know where to start out your adventure, our mods also set up optional quests which are open to most of our posters. Many don't require any prior knowledge of AremDee, or prior adventuring. Check out each of our sub-forums for quest options.
AremDee History
Years represented in B.E. (before exile) and A.E. (after exile), referring to the Demon Clan's exile into UnderEarth.
400 B.E. In a time before AremDee was a nation, the the sole inhabitants of the land were a group who called themselves the Deeans. A race of magic-wielding dwarfs intent on preserving the balance of good and evil. The Deeans resided in small towns and encampments which dotted the valley.
300 B.E. Bordering AremDee, the Demon nation of Oplexune was ruled by King Sundyr. After 15 years of drought and famine, the Demons of Oplexune were on the brink of starvation, extreme poverty, and death. To save his nation, Sundyr's only option was to allow his people to pass until the few remaining food and water rations were enough to sustain them all. In an action of desperation, Sunder sent his army out into his land and demanded higher taxes. Those who couldn't pay either fled before the required collection, or were alternatively put to death.
293 B.E. The exiled Demons were rounded up and slaughtered in most of AremDee's bordering territories and nations. In an attempt to sustain some balance of peace with every race of the world the Deeans drafted a set of laws governing the co-existence with the Demon exiles within AremDee. 310 B.E. also witnessed the rise of Demon townships and cities within AremDee borders.
90 B.E. The Human nation of Rivenland witnessed a catastrophic volcanic eruption. Lava flows raised whole cities to the ground and areas which weren't directly effected were still smothered with ash and soot making farming impossible. An influx of Human refugees began entering AremDee as safe haven.
70 B.E. Tensions between the Demons and Humans within AremDee began to erupt. The Demons disallowed Humans from living within their cities and towns, and the Demons began taxing Human colonies for their goods and resources.
64 B.E. During a 12 year drought, the Demon nation of Oplexune was thrown into a civil war. Distracted by their own squabbling, the land was conquered by an army of Elves set on extinguishing the Demon threat. The few survivors escaped into AremDee, and Oplexune was renamed Izilduruk.
14 B.E. Demonic raids on Human establishments became a common occurrence. The Demons began capturing and trading Humans for slave labor. The Deeans took notice and retreated into the D'Evron Mountains where they assembled an army of warriors using their arcane magic. They instructed the warriors to descend into the valley and chase the Demons into the D'Evron Mountains where they could be dealt with.
0 B.E. After a 14-year war, the Deeans and their army succeeded, and the Demon inhabitants were sealed within a cave system located in the D'Evron Mountains. The Deean's and their army retreated never to be heard from again, allowing the Humans to build over the Demon ruins and sustain their own towns and cities.
52 A.E. Herlam Bristol founded Linain as the capitol city within AremDee and began reparations to build a castle.
67 A.E. Erwyn founded as a port town which allowed imports, exports, and immigration within AremDee. Immigrants of all race types began arriving, but were met with generalized distrust by the Human inhabitants.
72 A.E. Completion of Linain Castle. Herlam Bristol crowned as the first in a long lineage of Kings.
131 A.E. Orstian founded as a way-point for weary adventurers making their way through the D'Evron Mountains.
186 A.E. Aithen founded. Trade routes between Orstian, Linain, and Aithen created.
344 A.E. After nearly 350 years, the Demons and the Deeans became nothing more than fairy tales passed from parent to child. Whole teams of adventurers were disappearing within the D'Evron Mountains never to be seen or heard from again.
361 A.E. King Vallmark Bristol enacted a treaty allowing any race or breed of creature to take up residence within AremDee. The treaty did nothing to cure the treatment of new non-human immigrants as public opinion still considered new arrivals untrustworthy.
391 A.E. Demon sightings were reported in and around Orstian. Search and research parties were sent out of Orstian to confirm the claims, but returned empty-handed. Parties traversing the D'Evron Mountains continued to disappear unexplained.
400 A.E. Balthatos Bristol took the throne as the current King of AremDee and made public his intentions to secure more land and expand AremDee borders.
