Rules of AremDee
Surprisingly, reading forum rules isn't all that entertaining. In fact, many users don't read them at all. I just want to say thanks for spending five minutes of your time to do the right thing.
We may as well just dive right in. Here's a list of rules I expect everyone to follow:
General Forum Rules:
1.) Respect your fellow posters.
If you're having a bad day, go ahead and tell us about it. Don't try to take it out on us, though. The internet isn't your personal punching bag, and we're here to have a good time, too.
2.) Don't be a douche bag.
Treat others as you would like to be treated. It's sad I actually have to type that out. If you have to correct someone, you can do it without including words like "moron" or "dipshit". If someone is taking too long to respond, that doesn't mean you should flood their IM box with 15 messages before they get back. Just don't be an ass.
3.) Cussing.
In character, it's perfectly fine, so long as the language fits your character's attitude or emotional state. Out of character, try to keep it to a minimal and make sure you know who you're talking to. I cuss like a sailor, but I try to keep it together for you peeps.
4.) Racist remarks.
I'll admit that every once in a while, under the right circumstances and within the correct group; while the sun is in line with the moon, dropping a racist remark is kinda funny. USUALLY it isn't and if I get the feeling that you've been offending people, you're gone. In character or out of character; doesn't matter. On the flip side of that, whether it was posed as a joke or not, if you feel offended or threatened by anything said on AremDee, report it.
5.) Post whoring.
I DO NOT put up with post whores. You know, those people who constantly double-post or create a new post just to say something incredibly pointless like "oh" in an attempt to drive up their post counts. I don't mind a few double-posts here and there, but don't do it constantly or I'll be in touch.
6.) Insult Flinging (see #2).
I don't want to see a whole bunch of Out-of-Character drama around here and if your forum discussions seem to fizzle down to low-blow insult chucking, you'll be warned.
7.) Know Your Place.
While many of us may be "buddy-buddy" in a sense, the mods and I are here for a reason. We will hand out free passes from time to time, (frankly because I'm quite far from being any kind of iron-fisted ruler) but if you break the rules, don't expect to get away scott-free.
Role Playing Forum Rules:
Besides following the general forum rules (which I think are all pretty common sense), there are also a few Role Playing rules to follow which ensure things keep running smoothly around here.
1.) Be Patient!
It's been three hours since your last post. How come nobody has responded? I'm sure there's a good reason. Go check out another site for an hour or two and periodically check back. It's not the end of the world, yo.
2.) No Godmodding!
Godmodding is the act of taking control of another person's character. Obviously, making another character say something is a big no-no. Well, controlling the way a character reacts to, say, a sword blow is very bad, too.
3.) No Power Playing!
If I can't have god-like powers which render me invincible, neither can you. Please make sure you stick to your character sheet. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that YOU can change in the course of the game is your character alignment and inventory!
4.) No Lame Fanfics.
Please, PLEASE come up with something original. We really don't need a bunch of Ash Ketchums, Vegetas, and Narutos running around here. I don't care if the original character story you thought up isn't that great. Anything original is leaps and bounds better than something you taxed off of a cartoon.
5.) Out of Character / In Character
Most of your posts are going to be in character, but every now and then you may need to write a quick message to another player in the same thread. That's what "Out of Character" (OC) is for. When you're done typing your message "In Character" (IC) is used.
OC: determines that the following message is "out of character".
IC[/b]: means "in character" and assumes the OC discussion is over.
Keep in mind that the player's characters aren't supposed to have knowledge of what's been said within a OC discussion!
5.) Exiting / Entering
We also enforce "Exiting / Entering" tags to make each storyline easy for readers to follow. Before traveling from Linain and entering the Valley, the last post in the thread should have a footer that looks like:
[Exiting: Linain - Entering: Valley]
Upon entering the Valley, the first post in the new thread should have a heading:
[Entering: Valley - Exiting: Linain]
The system allows readers to backtrack through the storyline for posterity concerns.
7.) Be kind. Rewind.
If another player asks you to edit your post so that a story line conflict doesn't occur, at least consider it. If a Mod asks you to edit your post, do it.
8.)Moderation.
Everything in moderation. I know role playing is fun, but don't make your character attack everything that moves. Alternatively, you don't need to strive to become the most bad-ass role player around here. It's not about competition.
9.)This is NOT a Battle-Oriented RP Forum.
AremDee is a story-driven role playing game. That doesn't mean there won't be interesting battles, but battles aren't all we do. If you just want to fight, go join a RP on myspace.
